After a gang of bandits robs $500,000 from the Middletown bank, they hide out in the small, isolated town of Poorland, waiting for a scout to guide them across the desert to Mexico. However, tensions within the group rise as the gang's leader, Jarrett (Walter Barnes), and the brains of the operation, El Santo (Jack Betts), clash over the stolen money and Jarrett's girlfriend. The bandits proceed to terrorize the town's helpless citizens, holding them hostage.

Young Billy "Rhum" Cooney (George Hilton), whose sheriff brother was killed by the outlaws, decides to take matters into his own hands. With the help of his friend Mark, the underestimated scoundrel, he begins to fight back against the gang, aiming to free the captives and exact his revenge. The film builds to a tense and violent confrontation as the conflicts among the outlaws and the townspeople reach a critical breaking point.
